Mablethorpe 13-11-2023
With the temperature at 6C at 10.00 although bright, dry and only a gentle breeze there were only three takers for today's ride. Tim and Paul had sent their apologies for not making it Paul's excuse was that the Ali Baba Furnishing Company were scheduled to fit a new magic carpet in his house.
Meeting up at the Meridian Centre were Ty Harness, Martin Wood and John Rickett. Martin was trying out a new Marathon Plus tyre on his front wheel in a (hopefully) successful bid to avoid punctures. Impressed with the smooth ride, he was going to now get another for the rear wheel. With Ty having to be at Withern by 1pm it was decided to give the Mablethorpe Leisure Centre a return visit. A slightly different route was agreed meaning that instead of turning right at Furze Lane as we usually do, we would continue on the main road through Manby to Saltflletby, turning right onto Mill lane, past All Saints Church and cross the last bridge on Three Bridges Road before continuing to Theddlethorpe and Mablethorpe to the Leisure Centre. It was good to see these new facilities being used, especially the pool.
With the obligatory coffees consumed, the return journey to Louth was along Alford Road to Maltby le Marsh. This almost straight road is currently being resurfaced though quite passable and indeed we were pleasantly surprised to see that most of the surface had been relaid and is as good as Three Bridges Road - well done Lincolnshire County Council. Ty decided he had time to get to Alford before needing to be in Withern, so the threesome parted company at the Woodthorpe (Rye Lane) junction. leaving Martin and John to continue on the familiar route home via Gally Hill, Claythorpe Mill, Muckton, Little Cawthorpe and back to the Meridian Centre for one more coffee.
The pair were hoping that the side had not been let down and that Tim would resume his rightful leadership duties come Sunday
Mission accomplished.
