Cycle Friendly Building
The Cycle Friendly Building accreditation helps landlords highlight the investment they have made in their building. Whilst facilities are important, this accreditation goes a step further by giving landlords guidance on how to get people using the facilities through incentives, communications and interventions. Though this accreditation is primarily aimed at commercial office buildings, we have accredited build to rent developments and event venues
Why become cycle friendly?
Since 2019, Cycling UK has served as the UK's sole auditor for the Cycle Friendly Employer programme on behalf of The European Cyclist's Federation. Encouraging cycling among commuters has resulted in:
- Improved employee health
- Higher productivity
- Lower absenteeism
- Reduced congestion and environmental impact
In Belfast, Northern Ireland, 14,000 people now work for cycling-accredited organisations. One standout example is The Ewart, a Grade A office building that offers the largest cycling facilities coverage in Northern Ireland, earning a Gold standard accreditation.
What sets Cycle Friendly Buildings apart?
Unlike other providers, Cycling UK offers independent accreditation, free from ties to manufacturing, design, or installation of cycling infrastructure. The scheme delivers:

- Expert guidance, advice, and consultancy
- Behavioral change support to increase cycling uptake
- Communications and incentives to promote cycling
These comprehensive services are based on our extensive experience in grassroots community engagement, helping reduce emissions and making cycling an accessible commuting option for all.
