Big Bike Revival for Workplaces 2022

The Big Bike Revival enables people to begin or return to cycling. It now offers practical help to workplaces in England to encourage more employees to commute by bike

Why cycle to work?

With no end in sight to high fuel prices, Cycling UK has one solution to help ease the burden on everyone’s purse: encourage employees to cycle to work.

Cycling to work saves on fuel costs for individuals who choose to drive less, but there are many other benefits for both employees and employers:

  • Shorter commute with fewer traffic jams
  • Saving space and money on parking
  • Increased motivation and productivity
  • Improved health and wellbeing
  • Wider benefits of protecting the planet and improving air quality

How can Cycling UK help?

It makes good business sense to encourage employees to cycle to work and Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival is here to help. We’ve adapted the programme to offer employers support, expertise and advice in a free package.

Big Bike Revival is one of Cycling UK's flagship behaviour change interventions, funded by the Department for Transport. Since the programme began nine years ago, it has helped and enabled almost 400,000 people begin or return to cycling.

How does behaviour change work?

Led by Behaviour Change Theory and the COM-B (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation) Framework, the Big Bike Revival programme employs the FIX-LEARN-RIDE model to deliver free activities in local communities to inspire a start or return to cycling.

This is achieved by offering events that enable changes in behaviour by providing basic repairs and health checks to bikes, cycle training to increase safety, maintenance workshops to upskill people with repair knowledge, and led rides to build cycle confidence.

How does the programme work?
