Sarah McMonagle
Sarah McMonagle joined Cycling UK as director of external affairs in June 2023. She has almost 17 years’ experience of delivering strategic communications for not-for-profit organisations, with a track record of building award-winning teams.
She joined Cycling UK from CPRE, the countryside charity, where she was acting director of campaigns and policy. Her team successfully secured a number of major campaign wins, including on planning, hedgerows and fracking.
Prior to that, Sarah was director of communications at the Federation of Master Builders, a trade association for small, local builders. Sarah and her team significantly grew the reputation, profile and influence of the trade association over a period of seven years – and the FMB is now one of the most respected organisations in the sector.
Sarah has been a cyclist in London since her early 20s, yet describes herself as a ‘gentle pootler’. Originally from Harrow in north-west London, she now resides in east Greenwich. This means that on her commute into town, she benefits from a particularly fantastic segregated cycleway and is looking forward to helping make this sort of quality cycling infrastructure the norm across the country.
And when she’s not pootling on her bike, Sarah enjoys long hikes in the countryside, a pint in a cosy pub and camping somewhere beautiful in south-east England. Ideally in that order!
