Making Cycling E-asier: Try e-cycles for everyday journeys

What is Making Cycling E-asier?

Making Cycling E-asier offers one-month e-cycle loans to communities across Greater Manchester. This programme helps you experience how e-cycles can transform your everyday journeys, saving money on fuel, improving health, and making local travel more sustainable.

Who can benefit?

This scheme is ideal for anyone in Greater Manchester looking to try e-cycles as an active travel option for commuting, shopping, or leisure. Riding an e-cycle lets you skip traffic, reduce car maintenance costs, and enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of cycling.

Impact highlights

From May 2022 to June 2024, 1,012 e-cycles were loaned to residents across Greater Manchester, with 4,328 participants attending skills and confidence sessions. These sessions have been crucial in helping residents integrate cycling into their daily routines.

Case study: David’s experience

Curious about using an e-cycle for daily commutes, David found it practical and refreshing for short journeys, replacing his diesel van for both work and personal travel.

Case study: Julie’s journey

Julie, who struggled with hills on a standard bike, used an e-cycle during her one-month loan, making her commute easier and more enjoyable. Inspired by the experience, she later purchased an e-cycle, reducing her car use and embracing a healthier lifestyle.

Participant quotes

I had an amazing time on the ride. It was incredibly well organised, with friendly staff ensuring safety throughout. They tailored the route perfectly to my skill level and constantly checked on my comfort. Thanks to them, I discovered a fantastic new cycling route and a great coffee spot

My confidence has grown immensely, and the social impact of the group has been an added bonus. I’m now fitter, healthier, and love the fresh air. I’m even planning to use my bike instead of my car!
