Four rides this weekend, that could change cycling
Aberdeen
Aberdeen Pedal on Parliament is a mass ride on Saturday 25 April. It is set up by Aberdeen Cycle Forum in support of the Pedal on Parliament ride in Edinburgh. The ride in Aberdeen will call on local politicians to make Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire a cycle-safe and bike-friendly city and region.
The ride in Aberdeen starts at 12 noon at Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen and will finish at Marischal College.
Edinburgh
Pedal on Parliament 4 is a mass bike ride on Holyrood in Edinburgh on Saturday 25 April. It is supported by CTC Scotland and many CTC members will join the ride. It is a fun afternoon that makes a serious point about making cycling safer and easier across Scotland.
The pace will be slow and easy for people to keep up – however little their legs may be - and has the added bonus of cycling on traffic free roads!
Newcastle
Newcastle Upon Tyne Space for Cycling Ride is a mass ride through Newcastle and Gateshead on Saturday 25 April.
After the very successful Big Toon Ride last May and the Civic Ride in September, cycle campaign group Newcycling are calling on all bike users, young and old, to show support for Space for Cycling. The aim of the ride is to show solidarity and unity for a smarter healthier city, and strength of voice for change and action to create high quality cycling infrastructure, and win the continued support of local politicians.
Sheffield
Sheffield Space for Cycling - The Big Ride is on Saturday 25 April through Sheffield city centre. Hundreds of people are expected to come along.
Emma Metcalfe of Cycle Sheffield said: “Last year’s ride attracted over 200 people and this year will be even bigger! Join us and call on our local politicians to make riding a bike safe and enjoyable for everyone in Sheffield.”
The Big Ride is safe and fun; everyone is welcome. Cycle Sheffield marshals will ensure the group stays together and that the pace is suitable for even the youngest of riders.
The ride in Sheffield starts at Barkers Pool at 10.30am and will finish at the same point at 12.30pm.
If you don't live near a ride...
At CTC we are passionate about making cycling better for everyone across the whole of the UK and we hope these rides will draw attention to the fact much more needs to be done by politicians to ensure cycling thrives.
If you haven't done so, please take a minute to email your prospective MPs about cycling via CTC's Vote Bike.
