About us
We are Swansea CTC
Swansea CTC is the member group of Cycling UK covering Swansea and West Wales. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive, friendly and welcoming cycling club, open to everyone, from people who are already cycling regularly, to new riders, or those who would simply like to spend more time on their bikes.
What brings us together is our shared love of cycling. To this end, we encourage people, whatever their ability, to get the most out of their bikes through our fantastic programme of regular group rides. Central to this is an emphasis on the social side of riding, where newer riders enjoy themselves and gain confidence from riding in a group, pick up tips on safer riding, and get to familiarise themselves with our wide range of routes.
At the heart of our rides programme are the Sunday and Wednesday club rides. These range from easy, gentle paced rides along the coast, to more challenging rides tackling some of the iconic hills and mountains of South Wales. All rides are led by an experienced ride leader and have a back marker, and we have a ‘no drop’ policy, meaning no rider gets left behind. Riders stop to regroup or refuel at the top of climbs or junctions, and most will have a stop for lunch at a cafe, usually midway along the route. Throughout the summer season, we also run a shorter coffee ride on Friday mornings, and every year we usually organise short tours away from home, in the UK or abroad.
Information about the group rides
Our rides start in different locations throughout Swansea and the surrounding area, depending on the destination, but include the Marina, Killay, Gowerton, Briton Ferry and Neath. We are lucky in the area we cover, to have access to a great range of cycle paths, including National Cycle Routes, and quiet country roads. The majority of our routes are planned to avoid main and busy roads.
It’s not necessary to be a member if you want to try out our rides.
CTC Members benefit from Cycling UK's 3rd party liability insurance cover.
Our newly revamped Grading System, which gives concise information on the route and pace of each ride, means you can choose the ride that best suits your ability.
We believe in promoting cycling as an active and healthy pastime, as well as a sustainable means of getting about. In short, we aim to get more people out on their bikes. To this aim we intend to introduce to our programme a series of shorter, mainly flat rides, that will gradually increase in length and include some local hills to help build up riders’ stamina and confidence on the road.
See Notice Board for Grading Review 05-Apr-22
All rides will have a leader and back marker, we have a no drop policy and are fully supportive to all riders.
See the rides programme on the right side of this page, if there’s one you’d like to try, please contact the ride leader for more details.
