Cycling UK Louth Wednesday Wander 18th December 2024
Ride report by John Rickett:
Stalwarts once again!
Flying the flag for Cycling UK (Louth Platoon) were Paul Linder and John Rickett. Steve Croton and Tim Newbery had sent apologies, everyone else must have assumed that as the Leisure Centre coffee shop was closed, it wasn't worth venturing out.
The day dawned warm and cloudy though a tad breezy, however Paul made it into Louth against the wind and was keen to follow Sunday's plan of a ride to the bakery at Burgh-le-Marsh, so having waited until 10.00 in case others turned up, the duo duly set off. Not many other cyclists were spotted, just a few dog walkers and a lonely sparrow hawk to observe our transit.
With the temperature climbing to a balmy 12C, somewhere near Muckton Paul decided he ought to make himself more comfortable by divesting himself of one of his eight layers. Now more suitably equipped for the Spring like conditions the intention was to ride through Alford en route to Burgh-le-Marsh, which necessitated passing Soul Foods. With Wendy spotting us riding along and waving, a sudden change of plan was called for. Paul had already remarked that Wendy was putting on a special which she called a Christmas sandwich - I can't remember the ingredients but it was accompanied with roast potatoes and a dish of gravy. Very Tasty.
After that Burgh-le-Marsh wasn't mentioned, perhaps another day. The BBC had got it right though, shortly after 12.00 the wind dropped like a stone so it was a fairly easy ride back to Louth for one member.
