Saltfleetby 11-12-2024
Cycling UK Louth Wednesday Wander 11th December 2024:
Today, a ride to The Little Village Tea Shop in Saltfleetby, repeating a ride from a few months ago.
Weather was significantly improved from last Sunday with just a light northeast breeze. It would be dry too with a seasonal average top temperature of 7 to 8 Degrees Celsius. Meeting up at the Leisure Centre were Tim Newbery, Rob Cook, Steve Croton (wearing his new electrically heated gloves), John Rickett, Ty Harness, Alan Hockham and a welcome return from Sven Livesey. Great to see Sven back again. A larger than average group number.
Departing at 10 am we’d make our way to Keddington and Alvingham. It was near Alvingham that Alan picked up a puncture but with the main group further ahead, due apologies to Alan and Rob from Tim that he hadn’t realised that the group wasn’t all together. Protocols to be updated and put into place. Alan later reported that the puncture was soon fixed and that he had arrived back home in good time.
Due care was taken on the section following the drain that runs alongside Howdales Road, until we reached the main road to take us to the former school at Saltfleetby. Arrived just in time for breakfast at The Little Village Tea Shop. Steve had been looking forward to visiting this venue for a while. All looking very festive too.
With Rob informing assembled members of Alan’s predicament, Tim and Rob returned on the same outbound route to check all was well, to leave the remaining group to continue to Three Bridges and Withern under John’s safe leadership. It would be left to John and Sven to complete the prescribed route back to Louth having completed 32 miles.
Thanks to all.
