RAY CLAY - CYCLING UK ROLL OF HONOUR

Lifetime Achievement Awards

This is a list of the exceptional volunteers for Cycling UK who have been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for their long service and dedication to encouraging more people to cycle over many years, whether as committee members, campaigners or performing other roles. They have gone above and beyond to dedicate their lives to enable others to enjoy the wonderful benefits of cycling.

10+ years = Bronze award; 20+ years = Silver award; 30+ years = Gold award

Lifetime Achievement Award (SILVER) has been awarded to Ray Clay for serving on the Cycling UK East Midlands Region Committee since its formation in 2000. He served 24 years as a Committee Member, a long service indeed.

He was also the instigator of the annual Cycling UK East Midlands Region Beaumanor cycle camping weekend, which sadly after many years is no longer held, in addition to setting up the ‘Loughborough Wednesday Cyclists’ informal member group which has gone from strength to strength and is still active. His organisation skills shone in organising two Cycling UK national dinners in Leicester and Loughborough and continues to organise an annual Carol Service on behalf of Cyclists’ Touring Club Leicestershire and Rutland member group. Ray has ridden tandem and solo bikes, accomplished a side to side and an epic Land’s End to John O’Groats ride. Ray was the Dad's Army Corporal Jones in volunteering and was the local co-ordinator for the National Churches Trust annual 'Ride and Stride' events.

At the age of 85, he has decided to take it a little easier and stood down from the Cycling UK East Midlands Region Committee at our AGM in April 2024.
