Leighton Buzzard ride

The Vickers Vimy sculpture

A dull and wet day was predicted so only four brave souls turned up at the start in Hemel Hempstead for our ride up to Leighton Buzzard then on to Cheddington. We set off in the dry, and remarkably made it to Pages Park café in Leighton Buzzard without needing our rain jackets. The café was a bit dark and sad as they hadn't opened the window shutters until we asked them to.

Afterwards we went through Leighton Buzzard town centre, where our tour-guide Angela pointed out various items of interest. The market cross has been renovated and cleaned and looked resplendent in the sunshine, then we cycled down the beautiful High Street to see the newly installed metal storyboards highlighting the Greensand Ridge cycling and walking routes from LB to Gamlingay in Bedfordshire. At the end of the High Street we paused to admire a sculpture commemorating the Vickers Vimy aircraft that were built in the town during WW1.

As we left the town it started to rain and we made a beeline to the lunch stop at the Three Horshoes in Cheddington where we were joined by John and Sue who had ridden there directly from Chesham. The pub looked after us well and afterwards we made our own way back to our various destinations. So only about less than an hour of rain on an otherwise bright and warmish day. Well planned Angela!
