Camping trip to Lacock, Wiltshire

First white horse of the trip

Richard selected an excellent campsite to visit for the last week of June. We were very lucky that the weather stayed dry for our trip and we managed to cycle every day in different directions admiring the pretty countryside and villages, as well as finding several good pubs and tearooms for our morning breaks and lunches. The cycling was mostly on road, but we had a few adventures on unplanned bridleways, as well as reasonably-surfaced towpath along the Kennet and Avon Canal. Lacock village was very picturesque and only a ten minute walk away - even though we needed to cross a very busy road to access it. Somehow we managed to visit almost every JD Wetherspoon pub within 20 miles too, including the newly refurbished one in Trowbridge on the day it reopened after a three month redevelopment. In Chippenham at the end of the holiday we cycled past the memorial to Eddie Cochran who sadly died in a car crash at the age of 20 on his way to Heathrow airport after a UK tour in 1960. We also had a peacock join us briefly in Corsham!
