Weekly Bike Kitchen
Event description
We open every* Saturday at 11AM. NB on 12th August we'll be based at Sawyers Close in west Windsor & on 19th August we'll be based at Windsor & Eton Brewery in central Windsor.
Our volunteers safety-check, fix & adjust the most common issues with bikes: flat tyres, sluggish brakes, sticky gears, rattly mudguards, wonky saddles & so on.
We aim to get bikes out of the garage & back onto the roads/trails were they belong. Getting you ready for a Guided Ride is a primary goal - so those going on the ride take priority (provided it's just minor tweaks).
Booking is required, you can do it on the day with your smartphone & our QR code, but it's better to book in advance - we get VERY busy. Our crew need to know how many bikes to expect & staff-up accordingly.
We'll show you what we're doing while we work, to help you fix your own bike next time.
We're not a shop, we work with what we have – most common problems can be fixed with a screwdriver, spanner, allen key or tyre lever. We've plenty of donated parts, & sometimes use those. We'll use new brake pads, cables & inner tubes when needed.
We might send you off with a shopping list for new parts (typically tyres) & we'll fit those free if you bring them in.
If anything's really serious, & you need to pay for a full service, we'll refer you to our local bike shops: https://thebikecompany.co.uk/home & https://samsbikeshop.co.uk
(that's Sam ex-Stowes on Dedworth Rd).
We don't charge for our time or donated parts, but we're a charity so appreciate donations - but don't feel obliged. Most of all, we'd love it if you left a Google Review & told your friends about us.
It's always really busy on Saturday mornings, but don't worry, you can enjoy a coffee, a cold drink & a chat while you wait. We're a friendly bunch, so we can talk cycling tips, explain the Tour de France jerseys & suggest nice places to ride. See you soon!
*Excl. Xmas & NY...and possibly Coronations, please watch this space!
