Light vigil in memory of cyclist and campaigner Mike Gough

Local Group Event

Event description

A candlelight vigil is to be held on Saturday 29 June at the Sebastopol Cannon on George Street in Huntingdon in honour of local cyclist and campaigner Mike Gough who was killed riding near this location in March 2024. The vigil is a chance for local people to pay their respects to Mike and stand together in memory of all victims of road crashes in Cambridgeshire and their families.

Attendees are invited to gather from 10pm and bring a candle, torch or bicycle light. At 10.30pm, some speeches and poetry will be read by Mike’s wife Hazel, other members of the family and supporters of Hunts Walking & Cycling group, of which Mike was a founding member. He was a passionate advocate for more cycle infrastructure and for safer streets for all road users.

Mike’s family – Hazel, Ben, Kim and Rachel – has kindly selected Cycling UK as the chosen charity if anyone would like to make a donation in Mike’s memory. You can also leave a tribute to Mike and view some photographs and happy memories of Mike with his family on the Co-Op Funeralcare website via tinyurl.com/MikeGoughTributes.
