THE JO COX WAY 2022 - Day One - Part 1: Cleckheaton to Horbury Bridge (West Yorkshire)
Event description
The Jo Cox Way is a five-day, 280-mile bike ride in memory of Jo Cox MP, returning for its 7th year to celebrate Jo’s life, her beliefs and all the good work that goes on in communities up and down the UK.
Over seventy cyclists will be setting off on Wednesday 27th July in West Yorkshire and riding to London, finishing at the Flat Iron Square, London on Sunday 31st July.
Please come and jump on a cycle and pedal alongside us for part of the route and show your support by cheering the cyclists on their way.
The route has been broken into manageable day sections, join in the fun and celebrate group cycling.
We will be gathering in Princess Mary Stadium for a welcome event, with media. Jo’s sister Kim Leadbeater will be there. After riding around the track several times, the group led ride will head out onto the Spen Valley Greenway - the National Cycle Network route 66. This traffic free ride connects with the Calder Valley Greenway and Dewsbury to Ossett Greenway - pleasant riding along the River Calder and a former railway line now open to walkers, wheelers and riders.
You can drop down on the road to Horbury Bridge which is where the group regroups before the main group sets out on the roads to the Peak District. The ride to Horbury Bridge is 9 miles and there are various options for local riders to make their own way home or return to the start point.
