Gatwick to Burgess Hill and Brighton via the Ashdown Forest

People cycling on road through a forest
Group ride

Event description

On Sunday 13 March we'll be starting from Gatwick station, visiting Outwood Mill in Surrey via the Surrey cycleway, Hedgecourt Lake, then East Grinstead for a possible coffee stop.

After a very long but not too steep climb, we top the Ashdown Forest, and descend to Horsted Keynes for a lunch stop (village store, two pubs and a village green).

Return towards Burgess Hill via The Sloop, Butterbox Lane, Newick and South Chailey on quiet but sometimes hilly lanes.

Mainly quiet tarmac lanes, sections of the Worth way, the Forest Way and a short linking track. A useful but tricky to find traffic free exit from Gatwick!

40 miles to Burgess Hill, 50+ to Brighton possible if so desired!

Either meet at Brighton station for the 09:29 train arriving 10:05 - (12 carriages, lots of bike spaces) or at Gatwick station entrance inside South Terminal at 10:00.

Please contact the ride leader if you would like to join us on this ride.

If you plan to come on any of our rides, please make sure your cycle is in a roadworthy condition. Bring a puncture repair kit, spare inner tube (or as appropriate for tubeless tyres), essential tools, a mobile phone if you have one, enough to drink and a snack, and warm clothing or waterproofs as appropriate. Please follow Cycling UK's Covid guidance, and check with the ride leader about the distance and hilliness of the ride if you are unsure. Be prepared to give a contact phone number at the start of a ride.
