Sian Donovan
Sian Donovan
Age 57, Sian finally plucked up the courage to cycle again with the help of Pedal Power. Using a trike, her confidence and love of cycling grew. Seeing the amazing work of Pedal Power, enabling everyone to cycle regardless of age, gender, size, shape and ability, drove Sian to volunteer then eventually work for the organisation as a director.
Sian said...
“I’m going to begin by saying that as a cyclist I don’t think I’m very inspirational but perhaps my age, various health issues and cycling nervousness help me to better understand the challenges faced by everyone who feels they don’t quite “fit” a cycling profile.
"I am very proud to be leading an organisation that actively works to include everyone in cycling and I am inspired daily by the joy being able to cycle brings to people's faces. I am also delighted to be able to cycle myself, however imperfectly, and am living proof that’s it’s never too late to get pedalling!”
Nominated by...
Sian Donovan was nominated for the 100 Women in Cycling by Hayley Keohane who said:
"Sian Donovan inspires me because she is an outstanding community champion when it comes to inclusive cycling. Sian strives to remove the barriers to cycling that many people face. As director, Sian ensures the whole range of specially adapted trikes and bikes designed for children and adults with impairments as well as regular bikes that friends, family and care workers can use are available to rent out so that everyone within the community can enjoy cycling as a social activity. Sian couldn't cycle at all before joining Pedal Power and is still nervous on a bike, but believes this has given her an important insight into barriers to cycling and helps her relate to the members better. This is why Sian is so inspiring and promotes and celebrates cycling for all!"
