Rachel Nicholls
Rachel Nicholls
Rachel discovered the joy of cycling as a child, cruising on her Raleigh Chopper without a care in the world. But it was as a teenager struggling with low self-esteem and bullying that cycling became a transformative force in her life. Starting with rides to school, she found not only fitness but confidence and happiness. Her passion carried through university and beyond.
In 2012, frustrated by the lack of inclusive cycling groups for women, Rachel and her friend Amy Taylor founded Women on Wheels in Worcestershire. What began as a small, informal group has grown into a vibrant, 100-strong cycling club welcoming women aged 22 to 72. Offering rides of all paces and distances, the club is a beacon of inclusivity and friendship.
As chair and a British Cycling Ride Leader tutor, Rachel has personally trained many of the club's 20+ volunteer ride leaders. Under her guidance, Women on Wheels has expanded beyond cycling to foster a community that enjoys wild swimming, bell boating, and even line dancing. Over a decade later, Rachel continues to inspire women to embrace cycling and discover their own journeys of transformation.
"Cycling wasn’t just a way to get fit—it was a way to find myself, build confidence, and create a community I’m proud of."
