Janet Atherton

Chair

Janet lives in the Wirral and has been a trustee since 2017. She has been our chair of trustees since 2021.

Now retired, she worked as a director of public health in both the NHS and local government, and as a senior adviser to Public Health England. She has served as president of the Association of Directors of Public Health and was awarded an OBE for services to public health in 2015.

She returned to cycling at 50, and riding with a local Cycling UK group helped build her confidence. She rides with Wirral Bicycle Belles, a women’s cycling group enabling women to get riding. She had a stroke in 2023 but is happily back riding an e-bike with a new-found insight into the challenges and benefits of cycling with a disability.
