Zoë Westerman
Zoë is the director and co-founder of Cyclone24, the UK’s only 24-hour track cycling team challenge event series. The idea was formed four years ago, starting with a one-off event to raise money for charity. Today, Cyclone24 holds events at velodromes across the UK that are open to all abilities of cycling, from complete beginners to accredited track cyclists. So far, more than 500 people have tried out track cycling thanks to Zoë, and she’s provided a platform that’s raised over £250,000 for charity.
Alongside all of this, Zoë has found time to set up a corporate cycle network in Cardiff, where she hosts regular free to attend group rides for business people from across the city as an alternative form of networking and a way of encouraging people to cycle.
My role has enabled me to share my passion for track cycling with others, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to see that you don’t need to be the fittest or the fastest to be able to really enjoy cycling on a velodrome track.
- Zoë Westerman
Zoë’s favourite part of her job is “Encouraging people to try the velodrome! As I didn’t try the velodrome myself until I was 38, one of the aims of Cyclone24 is to make track cycling accessible to everyone. Cyclone24 is a team challenge so it’s all about shared goals and achievements. My role has enabled me to share my passion for track cycling with others, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to see that you don’t need to be the fittest or the fastest to be able to really enjoy cycling on a velodrome track. One of the best feelings is seeing someone up on the blue line, achieving something they thought they couldn’t - cycling with no brakes on 42-degree banking!”
