Ten easy ways to help make the world better by bike this winter
1. Join our Pumped Up Crew of micro volunteers
We have hundreds of volunteers ready to take on small but useful tasks for us from the comfort of their own homes. They share our posts on social media, encourage their friends and families to go cycling and undertake other simple activities that promote the positive benefits of cycling to others. Find out more about the role and apply today to order a free Pumped Up Crew T-shirt and mini pump.
2. Become a Facebook group moderator or contributor
Our popular Facebook groups support and encourage hundreds of people to enjoy cycling with tips, advice and sharing of stories. We're currently looking for contributors to our Women in Cycling Facebook group to create social media posts twice a week and support other female cyclists.
We're also looking for moderators for our Facebook off-road trails groups:
The moderators will admit members to the community, keeping an eye on shared content and answer queries where possible for each group.
3. Raise funds for Cycling UK
There are many ways you can fundraise for us without leaving your front door. If you're doing your Christmas shopping online, with a few simple clicks you can generate extra funds for us so we can help get even more people cycling, for example through easyfundraising and AmazonSmile.
4. Donate
You can also donate to Cycling UK directly via Just Giving, Facebook donate button or even give us the proceeds of selling your old car or motorbike via Give a Car!
5. Give the gift of Cycling UK membership
If you prefer to give people a gift that is not only sustainable but that lasts all year round, why not give anyone you know who cycles Cycling UK's Gift Membership from £4 a month and get two free gifts of your choice too.
6. Connect with our Cycle Advocacy Network (CAN)
By signing up with CAN, you will receive information about upcoming events including webinars and workshops, surgery advice sessions, and campaign action suggestions.
7. Join in the discussions on our forum
Our forum is one of rhe most popular parts of our website. Here, you can contribute your skills and knowledge of cycling to the many threads on hot topics such as cycle touring, technical issues, health and fitness and much more.
8. Nominate someone for a place on Cycling UK's Roll of Honour
Cycling UK's volunteers are all amazing but some deserve some special recognition for their outstanding contributions to enabling more people to cycle. Our Going the Extra Mile awards are aimed at anyone who is making a difference from giving their time and energy to helping others to cycle, so do take the time to tell us about them.
9. Write to your local paper
Last year, we suggested how you could improve the way the media portrays cycling by writing a positive letter about it to your local paper. As we slowly but steadily emerge from the pandemic, it's important to maintain the momentum and keep people embracing the benefits of riding bikes, particularly in the face of the climate crisis.
10. Join or support Cycling UK
If you're not a member already, the best thing you can do for cycling is to join Cycling UK and, together, we'll make the world better by bike. Whether you're a group, household or individual, we have a membership to suit you - and you'll receive a superb package of benefits in return. If you're not cycling that much anymore, you can also join as a supporter from a minimum of £2 a month and receive our bi-monthly magazine Cycle and our weekly newsletter CycleClips.
