Peter Williams – runner-up

Volunteer Awards 2018

Peter Williams was shortlisted in the Outstanding Campaigning Individual category for Cycling UK’s 2018 Volunteers of the Year Awards

Peter Williams is a ride leader with Chester and North Wales CTC, and has been campaigning for cyclists and vulnerable road users for many years.

In 2012, he was awarded the Regional Volunteer of the Year for his tireless campaigning work, and he certainly hasn’t stopped!

His volunteering and unflagging energy has remained steadfast even where it seemed no progress was being made. However, just this year huge improvements were carried out by Highways England to the provide cycle lanes and paths at the A540/A550 Two Mills crossroads, after years of setbacks and hard campaigning. This change wouldn’t have happened without Peter’s hard work and tenacity.

Cycling UK feels this recognition of his work and commitment to local cycle safety is very well deserved.

Cycling UK’s Volunteer of the Year Awards are held annually to recognise and celebrate all the incredible work volunteers do in encouraging others to start cycling and keep cycling.
