Maria Clayfield
Maria has been working and volunteering in cycling for just two years, but has been involved with so much in such a short space of time. At present, Maria works for Herefordshire Council on a project aimed at getting more women cycling, leading short, gentle rides aimed at new or returning riders who need road confidence. Maria is also a Bikeabilty Instructor, teaching in schools around Herefordshire and at holiday clubs, as well as offering one-to-one cycle sessions with adults.
Additionally Maria is a trained bike mechanic and provides Dr Bike sessions, and is a Breeze champion for Shropshire and helps out at local cycling events. In her spare time, she rides with a women’s mountain bike group and Bikejors with her husky, Sky.
Maria says, “I love watching people’s confidence soar when they achieve something they thought was impossible. I like being able to put people at ease and encourage them to do something that could potentially be a life changing experience for them. I’ve seen some complete transformations in personality as people get more confident riding their bikes. They become more confident as women as well as cyclists.”
