Irene McAleese
As co-founder and chief strategy officer at See.Sense, Irene McAleese has been instrumental in bringing about a new age of innovative, intelligent cycling devices.
Although she grew up in Australia – where she cycled to school throughout her youth – Irene and See-Sense is based in Northern Ireland and has helped put the country’s tech industry on the cycling map.
See.Sense lights react to rider behaviour, driver behaviour and the environment, helping to give cyclists more visibility and safety on their rides. Meanwhile, the data that See.Sense collects is helping cities to make more informed choices when planning road infrastructure.
The humble bicycle has the potential to help our cities face some of its biggest challenges.

Irene said: “I ride to work, and when it comes to the weekend, I like to head out on the bikes with my family and explore the local greenways.
“The humble bicycle has the potential to help our cities face some of its biggest challenges - to reduce congestion and pollution, and make us healthier through active travel.
“It's also just such good fun to ride a bike - I love the sense of freedom!
Irene was nominated for 100 Women in Cycling by Jemma Nimick, who said: “Irene leads See.Sense’s work on smart cycling data and insights.
"Her work is helping city planners and policymakers to make evidence-based decisions about how to improve cycling conditions for everyone.”
