More Welsh local authorities consult on future cycle routes

If you want to improve cycling and walking in your local area, now's the time to get involved!
As part of the next phase of the Active Travel (Wales) Act, local authorities across Wales are beginning to map the areas where future cycling and walking routes should be created. Cycling UK reports on where it’s happening and how to get involved.

In January, the City of Cardiff Council launched a consultation calling for public input into a 15-year vision to improve cycling and walking routes across the city, with an integrated network map for cycling and walking.

While one of the first Welsh local authorities to do so, where Cardiff is leading other authorities will soon follow, as this is all part of the legal requirements laid out in the Active Travel (Wales) Act. Under the Act, local authorities have to consult with members of the public as they plan for the provision of routes and improvements for cycling and walking (AKA 'active travel').

Local authorities have a deadline of 3 November this year to complete their consultation, and more are expected to be launching their consultations and accompanying workshops over the coming weeks and months.

Together with Sustrans Cymru and Living Streets, Cycling UK has put together the table below, giving links to the relevant active travel pages for each local authority, along with the status and deadlines for each consultation. This table will be kept up to date as further consultations are announced.

If your local authority has not started its consultation and you would like to be notified when it begins, you can ask to be notified through the online tool created by Sustrans, Living Streets and Cycling UK at www.cyclinguk.org/activetravelwales.
