About us

Teams Wheelers is a community bike club based in Teams, Gateshead, and we came together to promote cycling in the area for all, but especially for new or returning cyclists. We want to help people make the most of cycling for fun, transport, health, and mental wellbeing and consider the social benefits of club cycling just as important as cycling - we're all about miles and smiles!

We run regular weekly bike rides 3 days a week, and other events year-round including long-distance rides all over the North East (this year we'll be riding Hadrian's Way), charity rides, cycle confidence classes, maintenance days, and club socials. We are always looking for new riders, and we can provide training for ride leaders, bike mechanics, and first aiders free of cost.

Our club HQ is in Teams, Gateshead, and we have access to our own bike shed to store club bikes and a wide variety of tools and equipment for club use. If you're arriving by car you can park at Tyne View Health Hub, just off Rose Street, Gateshead NE8 2LS.

You can get in touch via email at [email protected] or phone on 0191 477 3734. Join us on Facebook or Whatsapp to keep up to date with the club, feel free to introduce yourself if you're new to the group and our friendly members will welcome you and help you get started.

Information about the group rides

We run regular weekly bike rides from 5-30 to suit all abilities on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. We meet at the Tyne View Health Hub, Rose St, Gateshead NE8 2LS from 9:30am and head out at 10am. Most of our rides take place on ‘traffic free’ cycle paths or quiet roads and include plenty of stops to check out the views and have a cuppa! We ride at a relaxed pace, around 7-12mph, and avoid hilly routes, with the emphasis on socialising and getting out.

Anyone can join a ride for £1 or our membership which is £5 for the year, and we have a fleet of club bikes for hire on club rides for £1. Members can join any ride or use club tools free of charge, attend training, and get access to our bike maintenance service offered by club technicians at very reasonable rates.

Families and under 16s with a responsible adult are welcome to join all of our rides, but we also run family rides outside of term time especially for young cyclists at a gentle pace on short, traffic-free routes.
