Tetney Wednesday Wander

Wednesday 10th August 2022

We looked forward to visiting Manning's Cafe at Tetney Golf club, having reopened a couple of weeks ago.

Blue skies greeted Tim Newbery, Rob Cook and John Ambler at the Leisure Centre in Louth. Reg Bagshaw and Chris Owen had indicated meeting up at Covenham. Paul Linder would stay for a chat before heading for home, preferring a pleasant morning ride before it got too warm, completing at least 30 miles never the less.

With the thermometer registering 21 degrees Celsius our 'wander' would begin, arriving at the Covenham's on schedule, joining up with Reg and Chris. With Buzzard mingling with the Swifts we would enjoy pleasant chat whilst continuing to Fulstow and the acclaimed double tunnel bridge.

We were pleased to be warmly greeted by James at Manning's Café and were informed that Deborah had just baked a batch of cheese scones. Perfect timing. Excellent fare and John enjoyed his bacon sandwich.

Rob would return directly to Louth whilst Chris would leave us a little further on at Newton Marsh Lane (named after the prominent Simon Newton de Tetnay 1446), hoping that both had a safe journey home.

The remainder would continue to Tetney Lock before returning to

Wragholme Ings and the Louth Navigation. Interesting to note that this year square bales of hay seem to outnumber round bales.

Tim and John were left to complete the journey to Louth after bidding farewell to Reg at Alvingham. Arriving at the Meridian Leisure Centre at 1 pm the thermometer registered a warm 24 degrees Celsius, made more comfortable perhaps by the brisk south easterly wind. Forecasters are predicting temperatures to nudge towards 30 degrees Celsius in Louth by Sunday!

Thanks to all for a splendid summer's ride.
