Roger leads an interesting ride around Rickmansworth
We were interested to see how Roger could plan a ride from Hunton Bridge to Maple Cross, then onwards to lunch in Rickmansworth. It looked quite a challenge to put in enough miles and still find quiet lanes to use. We were not disappointed as he took us on a devious route round the back of Whippendell Woods before accessing the Ebury Way which was actually quite rideable all the way to the end in Rickmansworth. We then looped up to Harefield before descending to the Grand Union Canal past the Old Orchard pub to Jacks Lane and Coppermill Lane before a straight run into Maple Cross where we enjoyed fast service and good value food and drinks at Durans cafe. Good to note there is new cycle parking outside.
Suitably refreshed, we then climbed up to Chalfont Common before heading through the Swillett, down to Chorleywood Bottom, then up the common and down over the M25 before turning right through Loudwater and Croxley Green. Roger then took us along a lane and track that went alongside the Metropolitan Line to the bridge at the edge of Rickmansworth. When we reached the Pennsylvanian pub we found some of the Edgware section already there enjoying their lunch. A great day out in fine weather using an excellent route. well done Roger!
