Last ride of the year!
The last Sunday ride of the year was very well attended despite the awful weather forecast. Very cold and misty throughout the morning. Steve and I felt obliged to turn out as I was down to lead that day so we set off from St Albans before 9am to get to the Crown in Berkhamsted for my usual breakfast muffin and coffee. We were joined there by Richard, Angela, Mike, John D, Roger and Murray. We left the pub a bit late and enjoyed the initial climb out of the town towards Rossway which warmed us up. We picked up John and Sue at Hog Lane and Angela departed to head home. After 20 miles in the mist we reached the planned JD Wetherspoon stop in Watford, but as we'd been warned by Roger, Watford FC were playing a home game that afternoon and the pub was packed to the rafters. We cycled a short distance to the Southern Cross pub which was quite quiet and were well fed and watered there. Steve and I each enjoyed a child-size roast dinner for £3.99 - an absolute bargain. I forgot to take any phone photos and as you can see from the stills I extracted from the cycle camera there was plenty condensation on the lens!
