Christmas Day Ride to Red Hill

Christmas Day Ride to Red Hill

A short ride had been planned to stretch our legs before settling down to the traditional Christmas Lunch.

Earlier in the week it looked like it would be a wet day but in the end it turned out to be dry and bright if rather chilly. Top temperatures predicted at only 3 or 4 degrees, feeling more like minus 1 in the strong easterly wind.

Meeting up with Tim at 10 am was Rob Cook who suggested a ride to Red Hill Nature Reserve. An inspired choice as we enjoyed a wind assisted ride up and over the hills with fine views of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

No sooner than we had been discussing the lack of any birds of prey, we came almost face to face, or at least beak to face with a buzzard hovering majestically in the breeze. Indeed we were to see several sightings of buzzard on today's journey.

Coffee and mince pies were shared at Red Hill, sitting in relative shelter on the bench but it was too cold to linger for long and we were soon on our way back to cross the Bluestone Heath Road and

descend Goulceby Road. Always a pleasure to pass by the secluded Church of St Peters at Raithby.

A great morning spin on the bikes. Merry Christmas!
