Christmas Day Ride 2023

Group of people riding

Cycling UK Louth Christmas Day Ride 2023.

With the weather very much on our side and a morning forecast of sunny periods lifting temperatures to a relatively mild 10 Degrees Celsius, a perfect chance for a short spin along the lanes for a breath of fresh air. Joining Tim Newbery in Louth were Paul Linder and John Rickett.

This was always going to be a short ride and we initially ventured along Stewton Lane to Legbourne Furze. Great to be greeted by dog walkers and passers by exchanging seasonal greetings. All very heart warming.

Furze Hill lane would take us to the Queens Head Inn and Legbourne before taking Mill Lane to the ruins of Legbourne Priory. Founded by Robert Fitz Gilbert around 1150, the Priory was originally for the nuns of Keddington. Cycling alongside the Long Eau we soon reached the ‘Splash’, particularly deep with fast flowing waters of the Eau on this occasion.

A return to Louth via Planting Side soon had us back at Tim’s by 5 minutes to 11 am, just in case other members had arrived early for the mince pies. As it happened, there’d just be the three of us but we raised our glasses (mugs of tea and coffee!) to all those who couldn’t be with us today.

Wishing everyone a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
