Topiary Cafe, Klondyke Garden Centre, Livingston
Event description
Sundays ride is a very varied anticlockwise circular from Roseburn path which has a 13 mile almost traffic free middle section that tours Broxburn, Uphall, round the periphery of Livingston and the beautiful Eliburn Reservoir. We will dip into Livingston to lunch at the excellent Topiary Café in the Klondyke Garden Centre, where I have reserved a table for us.
Meet at 9.50 on the Roseburn bridge spanning the main Corstorphine road for 10 am departure. We will head out to the Burnshot road via Corstorphine, East Craigs and Cammo- less direct than our usual route but a welcome change. Heading through Kirkliston we will have the opportunity for a toilet stop ‘al fresco’ if required. The canal to Broxburn is the start of our traffic free section where we will take up the Brox Burn path and then turn left to Uphall station. We will take the Railway path across the north of Livingston then head south passed the Eliburn reservoir and into Livingston Village and our lunch stop.(22 miles)
After lunch we will continue south on Bellsquarry Path then turn left onto a woodland path that runs alongside the Murieston Water. We will finish the traffic free section by heading to Dedridge and back onto roads at Midcalder. Then a straight run home via East Calder, Ratho, Freelands, Roddinglaw, under the by-pass to Bankhead Drive and back to Roseburn.(41 miles)
The traffic free section is mostly tarmac but there are significant sections on manageable woodland track. See photos at the very bottom of the page.
Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group and the leader and back marker. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding
Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07974113737
Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube. You will need to have water, money for tea/coffee/lunch and a bike lock. Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Janet.
