Sportive/Challenge Ride

Event description

We are pleased to announce that your favourite RSPB/TPR mixed terrain cycle sportive is back, exploring the wilder parts of the beautiful Suffolk Coast. Starting at the incredible RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve before heading out to join up nature reserves and wildlife havens in the best possible way, on 2 wheels! There’s a family friendly 5m route, a 30m route and the full 60m challenge.

Where else can you ride a route through Suffolks hidden lanes and tracks? Go Wild follows routes through stunning Suffolk villages and highlights many public rights of way, forestry tracks and off road trails. Bring your gravel bike or mountain bike - Your road bike will not make it!

Suffolk’s Wild Coast, with RSPB Minsmere as the beating heart. A network of beautiful wild spaces just waiting to be explored. RSPB Suffolk Go Wild Sportive is the best way to get out on your bike and find these hidden gems. Country lanes, sandy tracks, rooty singletrack, open heath, forest fireroads, vast wetlands, mud, loam, gravel: all to be found on route. The route is perfect gravel bike terrain but suits almost any kind of bike that is home off road – from CX race bikes to bouncy full sussers or your favourite old hardtail, the choice is yours. Just make sure that whatever you choose to ride you don’t mind if it gets wet, muddy and dusty and that it is up to the task.

The  RSPB Minsmere nature reserve is one of the most bio-diverse places in the whole UK, the route will take you through beautiful woodlands and open heathland, internationally important wetland habitats and rolling Suffolk farmland. Our aim is for you to enjoy the wild spaces and hidden gems of the Suffolk coast. You will be passing (amongst other places) 7 RSPB Nature reserves, 3 forestry woodlands, multiple SSSIs and beautiful Suffolk villages.

Three trails are available, 5 mile, 30 mile and the full 65 mile. All start and finish at RSPB Minsmere where there is a café and shop plus family friendly activities, waymarked walking routes and more wildlife than you can shake a stick at. This is an event where the whole family is welcome, either riding the family friendly short route together or waiting for one of your clan to return from the medium or long route while you all enjoy the amazing reserve.

The Family Adventure ride starts at Minsmere’s Discovery Centre and stops every mile or so for a truly wild family adventure. Activities include bird spotting, den building and exploring the RSPB’s beautiful reserve. This 5 mile route stays within the Reserve and all led activities are included
