Changes to our affiliated individual membership FAQs
As part of our new consolidated offer, from 1 November 2023 our affiliated individual membership product will no longer be available. The good news is that all our affiliated individual members will be transitioned onto our amazing individual membership with an exclusive 20% discount for the first year.
Our individual membership will give you full access to all our benefits including Cycle magazine, the Cycling UK Incident Line provided by Cycle SOS, and much more.
Below you’ll find more information on why we are making this change and when it will happen. If you’re unable to find the answer you are looking for, please contact us by emailing [email protected] or calling our helpline on 01483 238 300.

Why is Cycling UK discontinuing affiliated memberships?
The consolidation of our memberships supports our aim of offering a fair and consistent member experience to all, giving all members access to our full membership package.
In addition, our membership feedback forums have demonstrated that the affiliated membership package is not as desirable as our full package as it does not include our key membership benefits, such as the Cycling UK Incident Line and Cycle magazine. This is supported by the low levels of individuals taking up this membership offer.
At present Cycling UK’s 70,900 membership body is made up of just 2,750 affiliated members.
When will affiliated membership be removed?
Affiliated membership will be ending on 1 November. This means no one will be able to take out a new affiliated individual membership from 1 November 2023.
What does this mean for current affiliated members?
If you have an affiliated membership and are due to renew on or after 1 November 2023 your membership will automatically be transitioned onto individual membership and a 20% discount will automatically be applied.
You will receive a renewal letter four to five weeks before your membership is due to be renewed and the transition to individual membership will again be explained.
When will the transition from affiliated to individual membership take place?
The transition will take place to all affiliated memberships that renew on or after 1 November 2023.
I am on a direct debit, what does this mean?
If you are on a direct debit this will be highlighted in your renewal letter and the new discounted membership fee will be taken on the date outlined within the letter.
Can I apply my 20% discount to a different membership type such as household?
You can find more information on our website about our membership types. If you decide to switch to a different membership type we will honour the 20% discount for the next renewal period.
To transition to a different membership you will need to contact the membership team directly via phone or email before your membership is due to renew.
What is affiliated membership?
Affiliated membership is a reduced membership package offered as a benefit for our group/club memberships. When a group or club membership is taken out, the group leader can offer this reduced membership package to club members.
The package offers club riders third-party liability insurance and access to retail discounts.
How does affiliated membership differ to the standard individual/household memberships?
Affiliated membership does not have access to the Cycling UK Incident Line, Cycle magazine or voting rights at our annual AGM.
