Edinburgh all-ability loop
Edinburgh All-ability Bike Centre (ABC) is a Cycling UK project that supports people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to get cycling using a range of adaptive cycles as well as standard solo bikes.
This 4-mile route uses the traffic free cycle infrastructure on the north side of Edinburgh to allow people riding any type of cycle, from solo bikes through to side-by-side trikes and wheelchair transporters to get out and explore the area by bike. The route leases the Edinburgh ABC base at Bangholm Outdoor Centre directly onto the traffic free cycle paths on converted railway lines and proceeds down to the shore via the Trinity Road tunnel.
Taking a right at the bottom of the hill, riders head west along the seafront past the Old Chain Pier pub and cafe. Reaching Newhaven harbour, they can take in the sights and smells of a working harbour and (mostly) seafood restaurants. From here it’s onto the 1.5 km long Western Harbour breakwater for magnificent views across the Firth of Forth taking in the Forth Bridges at the extreme west of view and the glorious Kingdom Of Fife and out towards the Isle of May in the east.
The return takes in views of the inner harbour of the Port of Leith and Ocean terminal (including the berthed Royal Yacht Britannia) before returning to the Edinburgh ABC by more converted railway lines.
