About us
VIE Velo is an Edinburgh-based tandem club which brings the joy of cycling to visually impaired riders and their sighted pilots.
We welcome everyone aged 18 and over. Social interaction is just as important as riding, and our rides include cafe stops.
We have a fleet of tandems and e-tandems and we provide training to those new to tandem riding.
Please contact us at [email protected] to find out more.
Come and join us, and please pass on our information to visually impaired or sighted people who might be interested. Thank-you!
Information about the group rides
We hold organised club rides on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month. We meet at Saughton Park, Gorgie, Edinburgh, at 9.30am. Our longer rides return around 3.30pm after a lunch stop. Our shorter rides are back by 12.30pm after a coffee stop.
We ride at a friendly pace with ride leaders keeping small groups together. Our routes favour quiet roads and cycle paths and take us around and out of Edinburgh in all directions.
We typically ride 25-40 miles on our longer rides and 10-15 miles on our shorter ones. If you're new to riding this may sound very far, however you'll soon realise the miles go past quickly and easily. We also have a Wednesday evening ride programme from late April to early September, often featuring ice-cream stops. These meet at 5.30pm and are back by 8.30pm. We also do overnight trips, fundraising rides and sportives.
Riders register interest two weeks in advance and we make the tandem pairings carefully.
We have the tandems, e-tandems and helmets, and joining our rides is free. Contact [email protected] to begin your tandem journey. Before completing training, sighted riders can join our rides on a solo bike to meet us and see how it all works.
