You may have heard the news that the next general election will take place on 4 July. It’s a crucial opportunity to make sure the next UK government understands the benefits of making cycling a safe and obvious choice for all.

At Cycling UK we’ve been actively engaging with politicians to advocate for cycling to be a central priority across all political parties in the run-up to the general election.

We've also launched Freedom to move - a manifesto for cycling, which sets out our vision and asks the next government to:

1. Invest in active travel, ramping up to at least 10% of the total transport budget within five years 
2. Give people real choices by making it easy and enjoyable to get around by walking, wheeling or cycling, and make public and shared transport cheaper and more accessible 
3. Deliver truly sustainable new housing and developments that are required to be built around frequent public transport services, safe streets and excellent walking and cycling networks, with essential facilities and green spaces within a short walk of people’s homes
