Triennial Century Ride -(aka) Trivets
Event description
The Cycling UK Tri-Vets series takes place every three years, starting back in 1928 when they celebrated the organisation's 50th anniversary. They aim to encourage older riders to complete a 100-mile or 100km route in a specific time limit. In those early days, a rider was considered a veteran at age 40 for a woman and at 45 for a man. Nowadays, both genders are considered veterans when aged 50 and over. Some riders have been taking part in Tri-Vets events for decades. 86-year-old John Seabrook from Kent has now completed 11 rides, starting way back in 1992.
This year's event organised by CTC Edinburgh Lothians and Borders starts at Eskbank Railway’s big car park – departs are at 0715; 0730 & 0745
The route is into Dalkeith – fairly direct to Pencaitland & East Saltoun, then Fala and café at Soutra (which opens 9am) about 2 hours or 20 miles. From there the route is over to the A7 at Herriot and down to Innerleithen 40 miles with a number of cafés. Take the cycle path into Peebles 50mls which again has a number of cafes.
