Emma Pooley

Former pro athlete turned campaigner for gender equality in cycling

Originally from Norwich, now based in Switzerland, Emma Pooley is a former professional cyclist who used to compete for GB, specialising in time trials and hilly races. She won an Olympic silver medal in the time trial in Beijing in 2008 and was world time trial champion in 2010. She’s also won six UCI Women’s Road World Cup one-day races. 

Since retiring from professional sport, she’s turned to campaigning, particularly for gender equality in cycling. She is a supporter of World Bicycle Relief and a founding member of Le Tour Entier pressure group, which campaigned for a Women’s Tour de France and improvements to women’s cycling.
